Lars Mikkelsen3-765x1024At the age of 27, he entered the National Theatre School of Denmark and graduated in 1995. He also appeared on The Killing, a drama series which was broadcast across the world. He later appeared in Borgen III and Those Who Kill the two internationally highly acclaimed Danish drama series. He also played a major role in the BBC drama Sherlock as a the blackmailer Charles Augustus Magnussen. In the American television show House of Cards, he played the role of the president of Russia. He received an International Emmy Award in 2018 to honor his role in the Danish television drama Herrens Veje. This series was telecast in the UK as Ride Upon the Storm in 2019. According to Mikkelsen's statement that he learned English from his brother by listening to Monty Python recordings and watching the comedy sketches.
